The 2011 Soul Train Awards, which was taped on November 17 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, GA, aired last night (November 27) on BET. Soul/R&B’s biggest night included winners like Chris Brown, Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Rihanna.

Brown, who had five nominations going in, avoided going home empty handed by winning ‘Album of the Year’ for his latest release ‘F.A.M.E.’ The “Strip” star beat out Beyonce’s ‘4,’ Trey Songz’s ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure,’ Adele’s ‘21,’ Jill Scott’s ‘The Light of the Sun,’ and Jay-Z & Kanye West’s ‘Watch the Throne’ to claim the title.

Brown’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna took home ‘Best Caribbean Performance’ for her hit single “Man Down” but lost in the category of ‘Best Dance Performance’ to Beyonce Knowles.

“Motivation” landed Kelly Rowland her first solo Soul Train Award for ‘Song of the Year,’ while Marsha Ambrosius took home ‘Record of the Year’ for her touching single “Far Away.”

Other winners included Miguel (Best New Artist), Cee-Lo Green (Best Male R&B and Soul), Mary Mary (Best Gospel Performance) and Jill Scott (Best Female R&B and Soul Artist).

During the celebration, the event paid tribute to late 90’s rapper Heavy D, with performance by Naughty by Nature, Doug E. Fresh, Kurtis Blow and Goodie Mob, who ended their set with: “We got nothing but love for you, Heavy!”

Additionally, Gladys Knight and Earth, Wind & Fire were honored during the event. Natalie Cole, Robin Thicke, Eric Benet, Marsha Ambrosius, Tamar Braxton and Bootsy Collins were among those who took part in honoring the music vets.

Winners List:

• Best New Artist: Miguel
• Best Male R&B and Soul: Cee-Lo Green
• Best Caribbean Performance: Rihanna – “Man Down”
• Best Gospel Performance: Mary Mary – “Walking”
• Album of the Year: Chris Brown – “F.A.M.E.”

After a successful year on the charts, Chris Brown has decided to make some more noise, this time on the real estate market. Radar Online is reporting that Brown has snatched up a mansion in the Hollywood Hills for a cool $1.5 million. The price tag on the home is not the only eye-opening detail: When Brown moves in, he’ll be just miles away from his ex Rihanna.

According to listings site Zillow.com, Brown’s new digs went on the market back in 2009 for $2.6 million but dropped by over $1 million by the time the singer snatched it up in October.

Brown’s new home is eight miles from Rihanna’s front door. But they won’t be so close for long. She recently put her eight-bedroom Beverly Crest home on the market for $4.5 million, which, according to real estate site Blockshopper.com, is far above the average $1.35 million asking price for homes in her neighborhood.

Brown had been on the search for a new location since the spring, when, according to Radar, residents in his West Hollywood community complained about his loud lifestyle.

Those complaints might have been a blessing as they opened the door for Brown to score a major deal on the market with the mansion’s reduced price tag. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom bachelor pad is listed at 2473 square feet and, according to The Daily Mail, includes an elevator to go along with its outdoor pool, sleek modern patio and living room with two stories of windows.

Chris Brown knows how to put on a dance-tastic performance. And that’s exactly what the pop&B entertainer did at the 2011 American Music Awards on Sunday (November 20).

Donning a white T-shirt and jeans, Brown began his performance with his slow jam “All Back” alongside his band. With just a microphone stand in tow, the singer twirled around the stage and displayed some rather raw and emotional vocals. While it may have appeared to be a rather basic set, Breezy’s performance turned high-tech when the tune came to a close and the stage turned black.

Breezy continued his performance with another F.A.M.E. tune, “Say It With Me.” Keeping in sync with a computer-generated backdrop, the singer mirrored some Michael Jackson-esque moves with his four background dancers. As a spotlight followed the singer, CB pulled out an over-the-top choreographed sequence, full of backflips and spins that echoed similar backdrop technology used during Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls)” performance at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards.

Unfortunately for Brown, shortly after the performance, he lost his Soul/R&B Album nomination to ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Even though Brown didn’t debut new material during his AMA set, Team Breezy can expect a batch of new tracks from the R&B singer when his new album, Fortune, drops next spring.
