As we all know, Chris Brown and morning news shows don’t always get along. Yet despite his “Good Morning America” meltdown back in March, Team Breezy was overwhelmingly on the scene at Brown’s “Today” Show concert this morning (July 15) to show their support.
In fact, it was one of the largest crowds to flock “Today’s” Rockefeller Plaza location, with the show’s anchors reporting nearly 18,000 fans — some lining up as early as Wednesday (July 13). (And we thought the lines for “Harry Potter” were bad!)
So naturally, there was a bit of anticipation for Brown’s performance. He not only rocked his signature Breezy dance moves, but a pink bowtie as well, catching Al Roker’s eye (yes, he was singing along). Watch below, as Brown kicks things off with an old favorite (“Forever”) before performing “F.A.M.E. singles “Yeah 3X” and “She Ain’t You.”

A very random story popped up in Star magazine about two days ago claiming that Chris Brown went on another gay slur rant. Allegedly, the singer played in a pick-up basketball game on June 29th and went totally bonkers when the game wasn’t going his way.
“He got really ticked off when things didn’t go his way during the game, saying, ‘That’s gay!’ and ‘You’re a f*gg*t a**!’ to the other players,” an eyewitness tells Star exclusively.
When another player didn’t pass him the ball, the 22-year-old Forever singer, perhaps best known for beating up Rihanna, fired off more slurs, calling him a “f*gg*t” and saying it was a “gay” move.
Chris’s rep released a statement stating that the report was completely false, and that Chris was filming the music video for Body 2 Body with rapper Ace Hood that day.
A totally fictitious article ran in the current Star Magazine (issue date July 25, 2011) accusing our client Chris Brown of doing something that he did not do. The article claimed that on June 29, 2011, Chris participated in a pick up basketball game at 24 Hour Fitness Center in LA and said some very inappropriate statements. The incident described did not occur, nor did the Star ever contact Chris’ representatives to request comment or confirmation. Chris was filming a video with AceHood on June 29 and never left the set. He spent the entire day with dozens of members of the production team filming the video for “Body To Body” at 1870 Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood.
The Star accompanied the fabricated story with a photo of Chris playing basketball in New York that was taken on the day of his F.A.M.E. CD release in March. Chris Brown’s management is considering taking appropriate legal action against the paper. Unfortunately this bogus account is being picked up by additional media outlets. We stand behind our client and want to set the record straight that this did not happen.

Joe Jonas was once a curly-haired kid from New Jersey who sang bubblegum pop/rock songs about puppy love with his brothers. Well, he’s grown up a lot since then. He chopped off his hair and, on his first-ever solo album, Fast Life, he’s opening up about falling in and out of love.
And in August, the middle JoBro turns a very grown-up 22. So, what does he have planned for the big day?
“I don’t have any birthday plans yet, actually,” he told MTV News recently. “I don’t even know where we’re going to be because we’re trying to figure out a touring situation right now and it either looks like I’m going on my tour, my own tour, or opening up for somebody, supporting somebody on tour.”
While his plans are still to be determined, he was sure of one thing: “Wherever I am, there will be a party and it will be fun.”
Speaking of tours, Joe was once rumored to be hitting the road with Britney Spears on her now all-female Femme Fatale trek. Those plans didn’t pan out, of course, and now he’s looking to hook up with someone else on the road. Joe even shared his dream tourmate with us.
“My dream list, wow … I mean, doing a tour with Chris would be cool,” he said of Chris Brown, who helped the singer pen his first single, “See No More.” “I feel like, musically, we both have the same sounds and we liked working together, so I can see it working.”
Joe’s album drops in September, and he told us that he’s not holding back on it. “It was scary in the beginning,” he said of doing a solo LP, “just because I knew this is my one opportunity to show people my journal: the good and bad of every relationship I’ve been in, you know, [and] what I look for [in relationships],” he explained.

On Wednesday, Chris Brown became the latest celebrity to apologize to the LGBT community for using a gay slur in anger. The singer issued a Twitter mea culpa for an incident on Tuesday in which he lashed out at several photographers in Los Angeles whom he believed had tipped off parking-enforcement officers to his illegally parked car, saying, “Y’all n—as is weak. Did you call them to try and film me? Y’all n—as is gay!”
The comments came just days after comedian Tracy Morgan met with LGBT youth in New York following his anti-gay rant during a recent stand-up appearance, which earned the “30 Rock” star widespread scorn from the gay community for his seeming advocacy of violence against gay youth.
The Human Rights Campaign told TMZ that “invoking words to demean gay Americans is just plain unacceptable … Brown should know better.”
Brown, who has made outrageous digital comments before — including a homophobic attack on former B2K singer Raz B in December — only to ask forgiveness for them a short time later, issued an apology on Twitter on Wednesday night, writing, “I have total respect for Gay community and my intention was not to insult anyone in it.”
A spokesperson for Brown could not be reached for comment at press time.
Herndon Graddick, senior director of programs for GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), told MTV News that while it may seem like this kind of casual homophobia is on the rise, what we’re seeing might simply be a result of the increasingly interconnected nature of our society. “People are being filmed while getting a parking ticket and commenting on Twitter and there’s more opportunity for the things celebrities say to reach the public,” he said. “But I think celebrities and people in the public eye are also increasingly cognizant that they have to respect all of their fans, and when things happen, they have an interest in correcting that behavior.”
Brown is certainly not alone in using words that may hurt some of his fans. Two members of the celebrity judging panel on NBC’s hit reality singing show “The Voice” have also issued apologies recently for using anti-gay slurs. After a performance with Rihanna in Minneapolis last week, Cee Lo Green posted a Twitter response to a negative review by critic Andrea Swensson, writing, “I respect your criticism, but be fair! People enjoyed last night! I’m guessing you’re gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well f— you!”
After the rant went viral, Green issued a public apology, telling Us Weekly, “I most certainly am not harboring any sort of negative feeling toward the gay community. I don’t have an opinion on people with different religious, sexual or political preferences,” said Green, who added that he assumed the critic would understand that his comments were “all in good fun” and that he didn’t mean any harm. “I’m one of the most liberal artists that I think you will ever meet, and I pride myself on that. Two of the remaining members that I have on my team on ‘The Voice’ are proud and outspokenly gay. We just did a team performance of ‘Everyday People,’ and I picked that song for us to do specifically to highlight how we can get along even though we’re so different.”
Similarly, fellow judge Blake Shelton landed in hot water last month when he tweeted the comment, “Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song … Any man that tries touching my behind he’s gonna be a beaten, bleedin’, heaving kind of guy.” The original lyrics are, “Any man of mine better walk the line/ Better show me a teasin’, squeezin’, pleasin’ kinda time.” GLAAD weighed in, suggesting that Shelton’s comments sounded like a threat against any man who took a pass at him and demanded an apology.
Shelton quickly recanted in a series of tweets, writing, “Hey y’all allow me to seriously apologize for the misunderstanding with the whole re-write on the Shania song last night … It honestly wasn’t even meant that way… I now know that [there] are people out there waiting to jump at everything I say on here or anywhere … But when it comes to gay/lesbian rights or just feelings … I love everybody. So go look for a real villain and leave me out of it!!!”
After communicating with GLAAD, Shelton posted this final tweet: “@glaad hey I want my fans and @nbcthevoice fans to know that anti-gay and lesbian violence is unacceptable!!!!! Help me!!!! And DM me..”
Graddick said that with an American public that is more supportive of gay people than ever, not to mention more aware of the impact of harmful language, for better or worse, celebrities are often looked to to set the standard for acceptable behavior. “I think that language can be homophobic and people can as well,” he said. “I’m not going to judge the intent of what [Brown] was saying; he was clearly pissed about a parking ticket. But his intent is less important than the actual impact. When people hear other people use the kind of language that makes ‘gay’ equivalent to ‘bad,’ it communicates a message, and it’s important that people are aware of that. I don’t think every time anyone has spoken those words their personal viewpoint is homophobic, but the impact can be damaging.”
The string of public anti-gay slurs has also included a number of sports figures, such as Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who was fined $100,000 for yelling anti-gay slurs at a referee in April, and the Chicago Bulls’ Joakim Noah, who was fined $50,000 in May for directing an anti-gay slur at a fan during game three of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Say what you will about Chris Brown. But don’t call his recent success a comeback.
The 22-year old R&B star, a controversy magnet whose early promise seemed to go up in smoke with his brutal beating of Rihanna, has maintained great support from a loyal crew of fans since that fateful episode over two years ago. And with his album, “F.A.M.E.,” debuting in the top spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart earlier this year, spawning three number one singles and netting him six BET Award nominations, it would seem that he’s back to at least semi-mainstream acceptance. Not that he ever doubted it would happen.
“I don’t really think it’s a comeback album. I feel like it’s an album of triumph, like an underdog type of album,” Brown tells The Source magazine in its new cover story. “It’s more of me showing and proving everybody wrong. I don’t think I ever went anywhere. It’s not like I fell off the face of the earth.”
Recently, the rapper and Rihanna seemed to be moving toward some small reconciliation; she moved to her her restraining order against him loosened so that he could appear at award shows, and perhaps even more tellingly, began following him on Twitter.
Brown is seemingly humble about his recaptured success. While he got caught in an online exchange in which he he made homophobic comments (for which he apologized) and had a meltdown behind the scenes of Good Morning America after being asked about the Rihanna controversy, Brown seems to understand that his actions have consequences, and is looking to positively influence his fans.
“What I like most about being Chris Brown is being able to influence the world with my music and smile, being able to
inspire the world, fans singing your music, seeing people dressed like you but at the same time them wanting to be
themselves, be individuals,” he tells the magazine. “I recognize my music touches people and everything I do negative or positive affects people all over the world. So that’s definitely a blessing and a curse.”
He’s very adamant about that blessing and curse part; as someone who has experienced the highs and lows of his personal life from underneath the magnifying glass that is the public eye, the lack of freedom does trouble him sometimes.
“The thing I dislike most about my life is living up to everybody’s expectations, never being able to be like, ‘F*ck it,’ and do what I want to do, not care about someone’s opinion,” Brown laments. “As artists we’re opinionated, but we definitely do care about the public’s opinion because that’s our consumer.”

Whilst on the ‘white’ carpet at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, one third of the Jonas Brothers, Joe Jonas, revealed details of his new album and also discussed his new single and how that single came to be co-penned by Chris Brown.
